Rowling ‘Has No Firm Plans’ To Publish Potter Encyclopedia

So the three new books that Bloomsbury are publishing can’t be the encyclopedia. J.K. Rowling has recently updated her website to let people know that she currently no plans to release an encyclopedia in book form, and that for the time being all new Potter information will appear on Pottermore.

This update comes in stark contrast to her previous statement that was released when Rowling announced The Casual Vacancy and relaunched her site and updated Q&A back in April.

For a long time I have been promising an encyclopaedia of Harry’s world, and I have started work on this now – some of it forms the new content in Pottermore. It is likely to be a time-consuming job, but when finished I shall donate all royalties to charity..

The above statement has since been removed from her site.

What gives J.K?! 😦

  1. I really thought this was a go. Hmmm…maybe she’s just really busy with the new book and the book tour for that and everything.

    • I hope so too. Perhaps this update is only so people stop speculating that the three new books Bloomsbury is publishing are the encyclopedia. I definitely don’t want Pottermore to be the only place we get new Potter content!

      • Hopefully, she’s just taking a little break and will be back on it as soon as these new three book are ready for the public. Who knows! I want the encyclopedia and I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

She also probably already knows it will be a big hit with readers so she can stall as long as she wants. : )

      • I was under the impression that if she published an encyclopedia she’d donate all the profits to charity but then that would defeat the purpose of Pottermore. But yeah I agree, I’d wait 10 years for a published encyclopedia! After all, we’re Potter fans for life now.
