Emma Watson to Star in Book Trilogy Films Described as Female ‘Game of Thrones’

According to Variety, Warner Bros., Emma Watson and her Harry Potter producer David Heyman are teaming up on another adaptation! Watson is attached to star in Queen of the Tearling, a book written by Erika Johansen, that has yet to be published but Warner Bros. has already secured the film rights. The project is still in development as a director and writer still need to be found.

Heyman will produce along with Jeff Clifford through Heyman’s Heyday Films banner. Watson will exec produce.

The book is part of Erika Johansen’s fantasy trilogy whose 19-year old female main character was partly inspired when the author heard Barack Obama give a speech in 2007. Johansen got a seven figure deal for the trilogy that Harper Collins will be publishing The books have been described as a female Game of Thrones and the first will be published in 2014. The book is set three centuries after an environmental catastrophe when a malevolent Red Queen holds considerable power. There’s not many details out yet but we’ll keep refreshing the Goodreads page for Queen of Tearling until we see more! Not sure how George R.R. Martin would feel about his epic fantasy books being compared to what sounds like another dystopian trilogy…

Since her role as Hermione Granger ended, Watson has appeared in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Bling Ring, as well as in movies with more commercial appeal. She has biblical epic Noah bowing next spring and also has a juicy part as herself in Sony’s This is the End and is also attached to star in Guillermo del Toro’s Beauty.

  1. The books sound interesting, and I love Emma Watson so I’ll most likely end up watching the movie and reading the books!
