Brenton Thwaites to Play Jonas in ‘The Giver’

brentonthwaites

Brenton Thwaites has been cast as Jonas in the upcoming adaptation of The Giver! According to Deadline, Thwaites beat out several other upcoming actors for the lead role of Jonas. Thwaites will be starring opposite Jeff Bridges, who is also producing the film.

Jonas is chosen to be the next Receiver of Memory in his seemingly Utopian society. He bonds with the current Receiver played by Bridges. Throughout the story Jonas discovers the lies and deception his society is built on.

Philip Noyce will direct the adaptation of Lois Lowry’s 1993 dystopian children’s novel. The movie is set to start filming in South Africa this fall. The screenplay was adapted by Vadim Perelman with a rewrite by Michael Mitnick.

Brenton Thwaites is an Australian actor who is best known for his work as Stu Henderson on soap opera Home and Away. He has also just finished several projects, including Son of a Gun and The Signal. He was also cast as the Prince in Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning.

Clearly the characters in The Giver film will be older than they are portrayed in the book (11 years old). Do you think this will change the message and essence of the film’s portrayal of the book?

It’s a wrap for Gandalf: Ian McKellen Completes Filming for ‘The Hobbit 3’

Peter Jackson has shared a photo on his official Facebook page this morning revealing that Ian McKellen is now finished with his role as Gandalf!

“Seconds ago we finished our last shot with Gandalf,” wrote Jackson. “The end of an incredible adventure that began in 1999. I’m feeling very sad right now.”

He attached the following photo which depicts Jackson and McKellen arm-in-arm:

Jackson seems quite confident that this will be his last time shooting a J.R.R. Tolkien movie despite the fact that there is more material to be adapted. Earlier this year he explicitly told fans that they were filming pick ups for The Hobbit which would be the last time he ever shoots in Tolkien’s worlds.

Fans have been hoping that Jackson and Warner Bros. would obtain the rights to Tolkien’s The Silmarillion, but there’s no news on that front yet.

The second film in The Hobbit trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, opens in theaters on December 14. The final film, There and Back Again, hits theaters December 13, 2014.

The series stars Martin Freeman in the role of Bilbo Baggins.

‘The Fault in Our Stars’ Casting News! Will Nat Wolff be Isaac?

nat-wolff-fault-in-our-stars-casting

Actor Nat Wolff says he’s up for a role in The Fault in Our Stars movie. Wolff was originally in the running to be the lead male role of Gus but as that part eventually went to Ansel Elgort, he’s free to pursue other roles.

“It was really great. The script is really great,” Wolff said about auditioning for Gus. But the second part of his comment was more interesting, “Josh Boone, who did Stuck in Love is directing the movie, and I think I might—it’s still in negotiations—but I might be playing another role in the movie. [We’re] still figuring it out. I’d love to be a part of it, just to work with Josh, and it’s a cool story.” – Hollywood Crush

The obvious choice for Wolff would be Isaac, the cancer patient who lost both of his eyes and is Gus’ best friend.

Wolff starred in Boone’s Stuck in Love, which is how he probably auditioned for Gus in the first place. We’re glad to see that Boone and producer Wyck Godfrey are still trying to have him be a part in The Fault in Our Stars. He played the role of Rusty, brother of Samantha (Lily Collins) and son of William (Greg Kinnear). Stuck in Love hits United States theaters July 5.

The Fault in Our Stars movie will begin shooting this August. The highly-anticipated adaptation of John Green’s beloved novel stars Elgort as Gus and Shailene Woodley as Tris. The two are currently shooting another book to film, Divergent by Veronica Roth, in Chicago.
