Four ‘Divergent’ Short Story Covers Released

While I pick up my jaw from the ground, check out the covers for the three remaining Divergent short stories that focus on Four’s earlier years!

Aren’t they just gorgeous? My favourite is the last one Four: The Traitor. The green emblazing ravens circling the the title of the book above the skyline of Chicago is so awesome. Four: A Divergent Collection will go on sale July 8 in hardcover and digitally. It includes The Transfer, the first eBook that you can already check out, The TraitorThe Son, and The Initiate. If you missed out on seeing the cover for the Transfer you can check it out below the new covers. You can buy it over at Amazon for only $1.99. The images debuted on EW this morning.

You may be confused, thinking that these short stories were supposed to be released singularly over a period of time. Well, author Veronica Roth did say she would do that but then realized back in December that she needed more time to work on them. They will now be released all together.

“The stories turned out much meatier and more substantial than I was originally anticipating when I started them,” Roth said, “There’s just so much going on — Tobias’s reunion with his mother, his growing disillusionment with the faction system, and some of his early moments with Tris, to name a few. So I just really, really need more time to get them right.”

As if we don’t have enough Divergent excitement already, the film is set for release on 21 March, less than a month away! And it stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort.

Four aged up from 18 to 24 in ‘Divergent’ Film

divergent-comic-con

In a new interview with AccessHollywood, Shailene Woodley revealed that, “Theo James, who plays my love interest in the film, is 28. In the book his character is about 18, but in the movie we’re making him about 24, or 25. He’s kind of ageless in a way. Even though in the book Tris is 16, we never really allude to the fact that she’s that young….this film has a kind of maturity to it. People constantly compare us to Hunger Games and I think that’s awesome. It kicked ass and Jen Lawrence is amazing. I think it’s a big compliment.”

Obviously Theo James doesn’t look 18, so fans of the books may feel a bit better knowing that they have changed his age for the films, rather than trying to pass him off as an 18 year old. I wonder how they don’t mention Tris’ age in the movie when she and her fellow peers go through the choosing ceremony at the age of 16. Their ages probably won’t take or changing anything from the story but it is a factor considering the age of the audience, particularly the fans of the books. In any case I’m sure we can all agree that we can’t wait to see Divergent in theaters March 21, 2014!

Veronica Roth Talks New ‘Divergent’ Books On Four, Confirms Titles and Plot

divergentfirewrks

Last week Divergent trilogy author Veronica Roth announced that she’d be writing four short stories about Four. Today, she has shed a little more light on what the stories will be about and their titles.

Roth confirmed that the titles for each of the four Four books are (in the order of release): The Transfer, The Initiate, The Son, and The Traitor. They will be released on September 24, December 17, January 21, and February 11 respectively.

“These stories mostly address Tobias’s backstory and some mysterious things happening in his world before Tris joins Dauntless. There will be some overlap with Divergent’s timeline, though,” Roth wrote on her official Tumblr.

The author also confirmed that the stories will be initially released in eBook format, but in February they will hit book store shelves in one compilation and attached with Free Four.

Free Four is the first short story released as an eBook. It was published last year. The story follows Four as he watches Tris in the knife throwing scene. Fans adored the short story because it offer perspective into what Four was thinking as his love interest was experiencing an intense moment to prove herself as a member of Dauntless.

While everyone’s looking forward to these new stories starring Four, we first are waiting for Allegiant, the third and final book in Roth’s Divergent trilogy, which hits book store shelves this October.

Theo James stars as Four in the Divergent movie which is currently filming in Chicago and will be out in theatres 21 March 2014!

What We Know About Veronica Roth’s ‘Allegiant’

allegiant-book-cover-high-resU.S. Book Cover

Book Title: Allegiant

Author: Veronica Roth

Release Date: 22 October 2013

Publisher: HarperCollins Children’s Books

Paperback Edition, 496 pages.

Book Synopsis: “What if your whole world was a lie?
What if a single revelation—like a single choice—changed everything?
What if love and loyalty made you do things you never expected?”

So these are the basic facts we know above, and here are some of the things you may have missed if you just jumped on the Divergent train:

  • There will be a new male character (LA Times Festival of Books)
  • Allegiant will be written from two perspectives: Tris and Four!
  • Veronica Roth tried to name a character from book 3 the same as her brother in law but it was too weird.
  • Chicago O’Hare airport is confirmed by Roth to be the building on the bottom of the U.S. cover. Thus we can assume that there will be something taking place at the building that was once the airport. (Veronica Roth’s Blog)
  • The circular water symbol that features prominently on the U.S. cover is not a faction symbol, but it will feature as a symbol in Allegiant. (Veronica Roth’s Blog)
  • In the U.K. cover (below) the Chicago city skyline is in the very foggy far distance, and to a lesser extent it is depicted in the same way on the U.S. cover. We can safely assume that Tris and co will finally be exiting the bounds of their world and discovering the world outside of the five factions.
  • The U.S. cover tagline: “One Choice Will Define You”
  • The U.K. cover tagline: “She must make her final choice.”

‘Divergent’ Author Veronica Roth to Publish 4 Short Stories About Four

FIRSTSTILL

In super exciting Divergent news author Veronica Roth has announced that she will write four short stories about lead character Four.

A new listing on Harper Teen’s website announced the following: “More Four! Fans of the Divergent series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth will be thrilled by ‘The Transfer,’ the first of four new short stories told from Four’s perspective. Each brief story explores the world of the Divergent series through the eyes of the mysterious but charismatic Tobias Eaton, revealing previously unknown facets of his personality, backstory, and relationships.”

Looks like this is part of the road to Allegiant publishing propaganda and we can’t wait to read to go along for the ride that’ll reach its high point in October with Roth’s spectacular third book finale!

The Transfer, the first Divergent short story, will be published as an eBook on September 24. The remaining three do not have a release date but we assume they’ll be published before or shortly after Allegiant. They’ll be titled, The SonThe Initiate and The Traitor.

This is not the first short story about Four released by Veronica Roth. Free Four was published in April 2012 and follows Divergent’s knife throwing scene through the eyes of Four. Four, also known by his real name Tobias Eaton, will be played by Theo James.

The Divergent movie opens in theaters March 21, 2014. Allegiant will be published October 22, 2013.

New ‘Divergent’ Video Feat. Filming Cast Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort

Super fans of Veronica Roth’s Divergent series are eagerly awaiting the first film with baited breath, grasping at any new content they can get, whether it be fan made videos, images, or even fanfiction. FunnyMan1098, aka EPotter26 on Twitter, has shared a great video from the May 26th, 2013 day of filming where hundreds of extras lined up in outfits from all five factions. This video also features stills of major stars of the film, Shailene Woodley (Tris), Miles Teller (Peter), and Ansel Elgort (Caleb)

Divergent tells the story of Beatrice “Tris” Prior, who lives in a dystopian future where people are divided into factions based on their personalities. In these factions, individuals uphold one virtue (selflessness, bravery, peacefulness, honesty, intelligence) above all others – but during the choosing ceremony when you turn 16 you can choose to either stay with your family in the faction you are born into, or leave behind everything you’ve grown to know, the customs and culture you’re accustomed to…and the people you love. One choice will change you, it may destroy you, and will ultimately define you. The film version stars Shailene Woodley as Tris, Theo James as Four, Kate Winslet as Jeanine, Miles Teller as Peter, Zoe Kravitz as Christina, Jai Courtney as Eric, Ben Lloyd-Hughes as Will, Christian Madsen as Al, Ben Lamb as Edward, and Ansel Elgort as Caleb. Tony Goldwyn and Ashley Judd will be portraying Tris and Caleb’s parents. The movie will hit theaters on March 21st, 2014.

Theo James Talks About His Character Four in ‘Divergent’

TheoDauntless

Along with the first image of Theo James in Divergent that was just released by EW, James had a short interview in which he discusses the new still that we just released and much more.  The graphic above is by Team Divergent! (I love it, and can’t wait to see what else fans do with the new still.)

”Is this the picture where I have a t-shirt on and no pants? I was really hoping they’d use that one,” James jokes, before explaining that this picture (note: he is wearing pants) captures a moment from early in the film when Four is showing the Dauntless initiates around their new headquarters. “I’ve introduced them to this world and they’re still in the beginning stages of training,” he says. “At this stage you don’t really know what Four is all about.” James got a taste for leadership when much of the cast participated in a kind of boot camp before filming. James was even given the opportunity to take charge of the Dauntless training, leading the 50 or so actors that make up the core group of background Dauntless characters. “They didn’t know he was playing Four, they thought he was our stunt coordinator,” says director Neil Burger, with a laugh. “He put them through it.” Says James, “I know it sounds ridiculous but it was really quite useful: it helped set a tone for those scenes, being able to live the character a bit. At one point, Shailene was laughing and I got real serious with her and said”—the actor lowers his voice to a menacing whisper—”Don’t. Laugh.” He laughs. “Shai was like, ‘um, are you joking right now?’”

Haven’t see the new official still of Four? Check it out right here!

First Look at Divergent’s Theo James as Four!

Fans have been waiting for this picture for quite a long time and finally thanks to EW here it is! Meet Theo James who will be playing Four, a particularly special character to our heroine Tris Prior. What do you think? Is he how you imagined Four to look like? I admit he looks different to how I imagined but we’ll just have to wait and see how he does in the role when the film comes out!

FIRSTSTILL

Divergent, the first book in a trilogy of dystopian novels written by Veronica Roth, tells the story of Tris Prior who lives in a society that is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is–she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are–and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Divergent, will be out in cinemas on 21 March 2014 and the last book in the trilogy, Allegiant , will be published in the U.S. this October!
